COUNCILLOR TARA THOMAS TO VISIT LONDON

Leaving on the RMS on Monday 14 May on overseas leave is Councillor Tara Thomas. Cllr Thomas will be overseas until 10 August. Although on private leave, Cllr Thomas will be attending the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations on behalf of St Helena along with other Leaders of the UK OT’s.

The Diamond Jubilee celebrations will be held during the Bank Holiday weekend at the beginning of June to mark this historic milestone and pay tribute to The Queen. We are delighted that Cllr Thomas is able to attend these events representing St Helena on such a prestigious occasion.

The events commence on 3 June with a River Pageant of a thousand boats of all shapes and sizes representing the UK, the Commonwealth and the Overseas Territories. The boats will muster on the Thames, bringing the river to life and escorting The Queen as she travels downriver.

Also included is a Buckingham Palace Concert on 4 June and a Thanksgiving Service on 5 June which will be followed by a reception at Guildhall and a lunch hosted by Foreign Secretary, William Hague.

Whilst in the UK, Cllr Thomas will also be visiting Shropshire, in her capacity as Deputy Chair for the Education and Employment Committee, to meet with colleagues involved in our Education Sector Support Programme.

In her absence, Cllr Rodney Buckley will deputise as Chairman of the Economy & Finance Committee which has also had the recent addition of Cllr Cyril Gunnell. Cllr Buckley will also hold Cllr Thomas’ position on EXCO during this period.   SHG  8 May 2012
