Remarks by H.E. the Acting Governor Mr John Duncan:

What a fantastic moment in the Falklands year! It was a difficult day to run as I saw going around. There was lovely sunshine but pretty strong winds and hail squalls. I say a very well done to everybody who took part in the marathon. It is one of those fantastic moments when taking part is as good as winning.

The Acting Governor also thanked Standard Chartered Bank for organising the event and to volunteers, marshals, who stood out in the wind and hailstones to give directions and hand out refreshments.

Barbara Keenleyside mentioned watch group members and their parents who gave their time as well as the bank staff. She also mentioned the Military at Mount Pleasant who encouraged runners to train for the marathon. Hillside Camp was thanked for coffees and teas as well as Synergy Information Systems for photography as well as Nigel Bishop who erected the start/finish line that didn’t fall down this year. Thanks also went to the Highway Section of PWD.
