Motion for Adjournment Speech by the Commander British Forces South Atlantic Islands

Mr Speaker, Honourable members, I would like to thank the Honourable Roger Edwards for his comments regarding my visit to West Falkland last week. My wife and I had a great opportunity and privilege to visit West Falkland last week and we travelled considerable miles over the roads in the West. It was an important and enjoyable opportunity.

I would like to publicly thank all those people who made us extremely welcome, as well as to take the opportunity to reassure them and all the people of the Falkland Islands of the unswerving resolve of Her Majesty’s Forces here on the Falkland Islands to deter and defend them against any form of aggression.

I welcome the invitation from the Honourable Roger Edwards to continue the engagement on the West and notwithstanding the fact that averaging five settlements and farms a day I am absolutely smoko’d out.

I have eaten so much cake but will nevertheless rise to the challenge and encourage my colleagues to do likewise. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I would like to thank everybody who made us so incredibly welcome.

Thank you.
