Fishing Vessel “Venturer” – Crewman Lost Overboard

On 28 July 2014, at 18:24 hrs. FV Venturer reported that a crewman had fallen overboard. The vessel, and 8 others in the vicinity, immediately manoeuvred and began searching. The authorities ashore were notified and a helicopter from 1654 Flight and a Hercules aircraft from 1312 Flight joined the search shortly thereafter. The helicopter successfully located the crewman and winched him aboard but despite all efforts he died in KEM Hospital in Stanley shortly after arrival.

The owners of FV Venturer would like to thank everyone who participated in the search and in particular 1654 Flight, 1312 Flight, the Falkland Islands Government Fisheries Department, the staff of the KEM Hospital and the Falkland Islands Company Limited Shipping Agency Department.
