Submitted by Saint Helena Herald (Public Relations Information Office) 22.12.2012 (Article Archived on 05.01.2013)

COMMUNITY GRANT SCHEME – FIRST ROUND OF GRANTS

The first round of Grants under the Community Grant Scheme has been awarded to The Disabled Persons Aid Society, Sandy Bay Community Centre and St Helena Golf Club.

We would like to congratulate these organisations and remind other community groups that the next deadline for applications is 11 January 2013.

Please contact Liz Johnson on Sofficer.cs@sainthelena.gov.sh, or phone 2470 ext 246 - for an application form. If you need help filling it in or not sure if you can apply, just ask. The scheme can help with capital, running or staff costs - we are looking for innovative ideas, so now is a chance to do something really different!

Civil Society, community and voluntary groups that are ‘not for profit’ can apply - they need a bank account and a set of rules (or are in the process of setting them), be able to show they can put in some effort through fundraising or volunteer time, haven’t already spent the money and demonstrate a need for the project that will have support from the community. It can be a geographical community or a community of interest and needs to operate on St Helena.
