WORKS CONTINUE AT PLANTATION HOUSE

Plantation House, the Governor’s Residence, has been buzzing with activity over the last few months as refurbishment work continues.

Staff at the house have been busy both during the time Governor Capes was in the UK and South Africa on business in the latter months of 2012, and it continues even now when His Excellency has returned. Along with the general cleaning and the shampooing of all carpets in this splendid 33 room Georgian mansion, a number of renovations have been made to various rooms and items of furniture:

Main Corridor – downstairs

The main corridor downstairs has been repainted with a new colour scheme changing from an off white to two shades of green – typical of the Georgian era. The finishing touch to the corridor will be the installation of a new full length white data rail which will set off the new paintwork.

All the photographs of previous Governors have been reframed and arranged in a more orderly fashion.

Additional ceiling lights will also be installed along the corridor to lighten the passage and to add ambience.

Ante-Room

Work will commence on the Ante-Room and adjacent bathroom this week. Both will be decorated in the same colour as the downstairs corridor. New rugs will also be laid.

Library

The layout of the Library is now completely different to how visitors will remember and reflects what a library in a Georgian House should look like. It has been repainted to a rich Jade green, the chairs and fireplace have been refurbished locally and the pictures cleaned and reframed. New curtain rails and curtains will be fitted in March.
