EXAM SUCCESS

The month of December saw 16 students sit ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and FIA (Foundations in Accountancy) exams, ten received passes in the following examinations:

Diana Benjamin (Bank of St Helena) passed the Introductory, Recording Financial Transactions; whilst Lucy Cranfield (Physical Environment Directorate) passed the Intermediate level in Maintaining Financial Records.

The higher level exams saw Camilla Thomas (Audit) and Christy Joshua (Internal Audit) complete Accountant in Business. Tiffany Plato (Solomon & Co) and Anita Legg (Secretariat) completed Management Accountant. Julie-Marie Leo (Finance) passed Foundations in Audit as well as Nicholas Yon from Finance, who passed Performance Management.

Congratulations are also extended to Connie Stevens who took Advanced Performance Management, which completed her entire ACCA Professional Scheme and Sheridan Richards who passed Foundations in Financial Management, which enabled her to pass her entire Certified Accounting Technician course.

Connie Stevens, Audit Manager, took exams in Knowledge, Skills and Professional.

The final exam, Connie commented, was at an upper Masters Degree level, which gives her the ability as a professional advisor to take on responsibilities as Deputy Chief Auditor. Some audits require a qualified accountant and Connie is now able to take on this role.

Connie said: “passing the ACCA exam allows individuals to have a globally recognised qualification. This qualification does not limit you to auditing. Skills and knowledge are transferable in the financial field.”

Sheridan Richards, who completed her CAT exams, commented: “by completing all my CAT exams, the knowledge obtained allows me to carry out financial statements, audits, and financial reporting confidently and professionally.” Sheridan added that she feels a great achievement in finishing CAT but also extremely relieved.

Connie added that for those taking exams within the Audit Department there are financial incentives behind passing and opportunities for promotion once the criteria are met. Currently there are three qualified CAT staff working in Audit with the remaining staff currently studying for exams.

Sheridan summarised: “Those studying CAT should stay focused and motivated, as in the end it will be very worthwhile and become a part of your continuous professional development.”
