PEACEFUL PASSING FOR THE IRON LADY
By J. Brock (FINN)
of Margaret Thatcher’s passing reached the Falklands just before 0800hrs on
Monday morning and with it a sense of loss for a Falklands heroine. She
will be forever remembered in the Islands for her decisiveness in sending a
task force to liberate our home following the Argentine invasion in 1982.
In 1983, out of
sheer gratitude, she was granted the Freedom of the Falkland Islands and she
reciprocated in 1992 when she presented the Falkland Islands Community School
with a Trophy – the Maggie – for the leading graduating student.
Islanders will sorely miss her friendship and support, and we will always be
grateful for deciding to send the task force to liberate them.

she was held by the people of the Falkland Islands.
