Falklands : Election Statement of Faith Felton
Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 26.10.2013 (Article Archived on 23.11.2013)

I am standing for election on November 7th because I want to do my bit and my best to improve the lot of the Falkland Islands and its people; I have no desire to improve my own lot in life without taking you with me!

Election Statement of Faith Felton

I am standing for election on November 7th because I want to do my bit and my
best to improve the lot of the Falkland Islands and its people; I have no
desire to improve my own lot in life without taking you with me!

I will do all that I can to see money going into the pockets of our least well
off citizens and into our infrastructure.

Our youth need a decent recreational facility; there is nothing for them to do
between the Shack and the Pub! We are lucky we have good kids, but how long
will that last as the population grows, especially if we become even more
depressed, deluded and dissatisfied? It will happen, the same as it has
everywhere else, let’s be realistic about this!

We need decent roads, street lighting etc. and facilities which are fit for
purpose; massive investment is needed in a number of areas now, in order to
save money in the future. I want to hear people saying more often,” that was
money well spent”, not things like “it was so damned dark on my street last
night that I nearly broke my neck falling over a pot hole, or I tripped on a
big bump in the road and ripped the knee out of my new jeans”!

I want to see our money being spent on creating a place where people want to
and can LIVE, and not take what they can get and leave!

I will not support the creation of any new laws which further erode our way of
life; some of you may remember what that was! We are British, NOT English and I
do not like this idea of adopting English law when it fits a purpose. We are
self-governing and should be making laws to suit the Falklands, NOT someone of
influences personal gripe!

We have a long road ahead of us with oil etc. and there is much work to do and
thought to be given to many issues, the road, we are led to believe it will be
paved with gold when we get there, but if this spend a pound to save a penny
and robbing Peter to pay Paul policy carries on, it will not even be tarmacked!

When was the last time you heard someone say “Ah can’t complain Che” when you
asked how they were?

I am standing for election because I would love to hear and say those words
again and if you vote for me and I get elected, I may not be able to do
anything about it, but believe me I will give it a damned good go! And that is
my only promise!

If you would like to discuss anything with me, please call me on 53054 or stop
me if you see me, Thanks for reading and good luck on polling day, whoever you
vote for, I hope it is right for us all
