A special investiture took place at government House on Valentines’ Day. Mrs Anita Browning, Head Chef at Government House, was presented with her British Empire Medal by H. E. the Governor Mr Nigel Haywood.

After 27 years and eight governors Mrs Browning has received an excellent award for all of her hard work. In his remarks during the investiture, H. E. the Governor Mr Nigel Haywood mentioned that during his time here Anita has catered for an estimated 1500 events and 30,000 people.

“You’ve done a great job,” said Governor Haywood. He went on to mention her “Exco Cake and Marmite Scones” as living legends.

Mrs Browning received the British Empire medal, a certificate and a letter from HRH the Princess Royal at the ceremony.

“She’s been inspired and reliable in all she’s done in her cooking and catering,” he said to Stacy Bragger of FIRS. It’s just been wonderful service and we are very lucky to have her in Government House,” He continued.

Anita told Stacy Bragger that she was very pleased to receive such an honour. She admitted to butterflies and said she was used to being in the kitchen and this event made her quite nervous.

She hadn’t seen the medal before and she was pleased to see it for the first time when it was presented to her. She was happy to have the medal presented to her at Government House.
