Falklands : NEW GOVERNOR BEGINS FALKLANDSí POST

His Excellency the Governor Mr Colin Roberts, CVO was sworn in as the 35th Governor of the Falkland Islands on Tuesday, 29 April 2014 in the Court and Assembly Chamber of the Town Hall at 0900hrs.

NEW GOVERNOR BEGINS FALKLANDSí POST By J. Brock (FINN) His Excellency the Governor Mr Colin Roberts, CVO was sworn in as the 35th Governor of the Falkland Islands on Tuesday, 29 April 2014 in the Court and Assembly Chamber of the Town Hall at 0900hrs. Six Bars of the National Anthem were played and the Chief Executive commanded the Clerk of Council, Mrs Claudette Anderson Prior to read the commission from Her Majesty the Queen appointing Mr Roberts to the Post. With Bible in Hand, Mr Roberts read the Oath of Allegiance. The Reverend Richard Hines of Christ Church Cathedral then said prayers for the new Governor. After receiving the sword Mr Roberts said a few words of thanks for the welcome he and his wife received. H. E. the Governor Mr Roberts greeted the invited guests before leaving to put on his sword and take refreshments. At 0950hrs the Governor inspected a Guard of Honour consisting of the Falkland islands Defence Force and a Tri-service Detachment of Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force. The Governorís standard was raised and the saluting guns were fired with a 17 shell volley. The morningís events were concluded at Government House with a vin díhonneur. In the evening there was a reception for the new Governor at Government House where a toast was given. Mr Roberts again thanked everyone for the warm reception he had received.
