A long-line vessel, Insung 22, licensed to fish in South Georgia waters has sustained a fire on Tuesday, 16 June 2009 at lunchtime and the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (SGSSI) was notified at approximately 1400hrs LMT.

Thanks to students from the Falkland Islands Community School, the Dog Handling Section at MPC, Police Chief Paul Elliott and the Band of the Royal Logistical Corps, the grand total of £218.00 was raised in aid of Musequality, a UK-based charity, funds communal music projects for some of the poorest children in the developing world. Last week saw service personnel taking to the roads in their Landrovers and demonstrating some excellent driving at Mount Pleasant Complex (MPC) during a “Young Drivers’ Challenge”. The competition aimed to practice and enhance the driving skills of drivers in order to promote and improve road safety within the Falkland Islands especially those within the 17 – 25 year age group.
